Directory of Benton Borough,
circa 1901

Streets
In order to understand where people lived in Benton Borough in 1901, it is necessary to understand the formation of streets at that time. The Borough looked somewhat like an inverted "T," with most living along the main street or along Market Street. There were other streets, and we have listed them below. It is interesting to note some name changes and some peculiar characteristics of streets at that time; i.e., Two and a Half Street, First Street, Hurley Street.

Explanations

First is the name of the individual or firm. Second is the post office address in parenthesis, if different from the name of the town. Third.  The figures following the letter "r" indicate the number of the road on which party resides. Where no road number is given, the party is supposed to reside in the Borough. Fourth.  Business or occupation. Fifth.  Figures placed after the occupation of a farmer indicates the number of acres owned or leased
