Columbia Country Townships

 

In 1813, Columbia County was separately organized and twelve townships were created; i.e., Bloom, Briarcreek, Chillisquaque, Catawissa, Derry, Fishingcreek, Greenwood, Hemlock, Mahoning, Mifflin, Sugarloaf and Turbut. Of the townships nearest to Benton,

Fishingcreek Township began at August session in 1789 out of part of Wyoming County.

Benton came from Sugarloaf township at the August session in 1850.

Jackson Township Jackson became a township at the November sessions in 1938, formed out of parts of Greenwood and Sugarloaf.
