The key with the Windows logo
|
IIf you are running a version of the Windows operating system, look for a keyboard key between your Ctrl and Alt keys, with the Windows logo on it. This key activates the Windows Start menu! Try it now by pressing the Windows key. The Start menu appears. Arrow keys will move the curser up and down the Start menu until you've highlighted the choice you want and then press Enter. Now you can get to any program or recently saved document on your computer without taking your hands from the keyboard. |

Print Screen Gizmo
|
Pressing the print screen button doesn't print a screen,
it causes the image on the screen to be copied to the clipboard. From
there, paste it (Ctrl + V) into any image program or HTNL email and save
it, or print it. This is handy for a recipe you see on a web site or for
something you see on the News From Back Home in Benton, PA, that you want
to send to cousin Oscar from Omaha. |

Single click and double click
|
If you would rather single click to open a folder, open "My Computer," click on "View" and "Folder Options." Change to "Web Style." We suspect that you will eventually want to go back to a "double click," so do the same thing, except use either "Classic Style" or "Custom." If you chose "Custom" you will need to click "Settings" and change the last section from "Single-click" to "Double-click," then click "OK" and then "Close." |

Microsoft Word
|
If you are having trouble with any version of Microsoft Word crashing, displaying error messages or misbehaving in other ways, close Word and do a find (Ctrl+F) for the file "normal.dot" and delete it. If you worry about that being too drastic, rename it to something else. Restart Word and it rebuilds the file and reset its default to the original settings. Word will start more quickly, with no errors. | |
